Last Saturday (9
November) the first adorable turtle hatchling left the nest and swam away in the
Falsino River.

O primeiro pequeno e
fofo filhote de tracajá saiu do ninho e ganhou o rio no último sábado (9
de Novembro), no Rio Falsino.

The hatchling
emerged from one of the locations that have been monitored
since 2012.
Unlike other more
widely known regions (for example in the Trombetas River) there are no grand nesting beaches along the smaller
rivers in our study area.
It is always a challenge to find nesting areas tucked away in such inconspicuous locations. |
O filhote nasceu de um
dos locais monitorados desde 2012.
Ao contrário de outras
regiões mais conhecidas (por exemplo tabuleiros no Rio Trombetas), não existem grandes praias de nidificação ao longo
dos rios menores em nossa área de estudo.
É sempre um desafio encontrar áreas de nidificação escondidas em locais tão imperceptíveis. |
The river levels are
still decreasing and we hope that this year many more hatchlings will survive
to take their first swim.
